Shepley v Clayton West Drakes Huddersfield League Premiership Saturday 9th May 2009 Marsh Lane, Shepley
Shepley finally defeated Clayton West by 28 runs in a hard fought game at Marsh Lane. A difficult pitch, particularly over the first twenty-five overs, made run scoring difficult. Batting first, Shepley got off to a slow start as the openers struggled against some accurate bowling helped by a lot of movement. All the top four made a start, but none could kick on and it was left to Romain Grenville (41) and Nigel Hoyle (25) to begin the acceleration, followed by Don Bandula Ranjith (18) and Ashley Brothers (32) to take the score on to a respectable 190-9. In reply, Clayton West started well, with Firth (21) and Butterfield (23) having a solid opening stand. Sharp (31) and Chris Thompson (25) pushed on, but Danny Glover (5-60) and Don Bandula Ranjith (3-35) took regular wickets to restrict the visitors to 162-9.
