Shepley v Delph & Dobcross

Drakes Huddersfield League Premiership

Sunday 28 June 2009

Marsh Lane, Shepley

Shepley completed an excellent weekend's work with a great 29 run win over second-placed Delph & Dobcross to move back up to fifth place in the League.  Put in to bat, Shepley lost Tom Denton and Sam Haigh early, but SP Singh (60) and Tim Rees (54) rebuilt the innings with an excellent third wicket stand, before Zahoor removed them in quick succession.  Romain Grenville (37) and Danny Glover (51*) took the innings on with the help of some sloppy fielding and, whilst they found it difficult to accelerate over the last few overs thanks to some good slow bowling, saw Shepley to a good score of 223-5.  Delph's innings got off to an explosive start as Glover (1-38) and Grenville (2-37) tore into the top order, leaving them rocking at 8-3.  Things got worse when Zahoor foolishly took on Grenville's arm chasing an unnecessary second run.  Lilley (67), Jump (39) and Smethurst (25) tried to close the gap, but Shepley's bowlers were always on top and Sam Denton (2-28), Don Bandula Ranjith (2-51) and SP Singh (2-26) showed control under pressure to pick off the batsmen.
