Golcar v Shepley Drakes Huddersfield League Premiership Sunday 31st May 2009 Swallow Lane, Golcar
Shepley's batsman had a poor day at the office as they went down to Golcar. For the second game this weekend a match that was there for the winning was lost, leaving the side with no points out of twelve after five consecutive wins. Shepley's innings got off to a bad start when SP Singh was lbw to a ball that kept low in the first over. A stand of 47 between Sam Haigh (24) and Tim Rees (22) augured well, but when they went the middle order subsided with five wickets falling for 29 runs, including a number of rash shots. Romain Grenville (28) hit Hilliard out of the attack with four boundaries in an over and Danny Glover (21*) batted well, but Shepley were all out for just 134, with 8.5 overs unused. The target looked at least thirty runs short as Golcar replied. Whitwam and Sykes started well, putting on an untroubled 29 before the wicket began to find a bit of life. Grenville had the dangerous Whitwam lbw and Singh started a wonderful spell where his first nine overs returned 2-9. Don Bandula Ranjith had Illingworth caught, leaving Golcar on a nervous 68-4 as runs seemed impossible to find. However, not for the first time against Shepley, Robshaw stepped up to launch an assault, slog-sweeping Singh for three massive sixes, helped by a bright knock from Ashley Pamment, seeing their team home by six wickets with over sixteen overs to spare.
