Meltham v Shepley Drakes Huddersfield League Premiership Saturday 16th May 2009 Mean Lane, Meltham
Shepley made it eleven points out of twelve over the Bank Holiday weekend with an easy win at Meltham, taking the side to within two points of the leaders. On a difficult pitch, Meltham were got off to a reasonable start, but were unable to take it on. Skipper Danny Glover (7-36) bowled superbly for his second seven-for in five innings, while SP Singh took 3-29 in thirteen excellent overs. Meltham were all out for 139 with five overs unused. Rain was forecast for early evening and, indeed, light rain fell during the later stages of the Shepley reply. Knowing time was short to avoid the weather, Shepley went for it as Sam Haigh carried his bat for 50* including two towering sixes, Tim Rees continued his good run with 33 and Tom Denton (25) showed his is close to his best. The target was passed in just 21 overs with seven wickets to spare, securing six points on a day when most other matches were rained off.
