Shepley v Micklehurst Drakes Huddersfield League Premiership Saturday 11 July 2009 Marsh Lane, Shepley
Shepley gained five points in an eight wicket win over struggling Micklehurst, but may regret not getting all six. The visitors won the toss and batted, and were soon in trouble as Romain Grenville bowled Blomeley without scoring. However, a decent stand between Roters and Gleave held up the Shepley attack for a while before the excellent Danny Glover (4-46) and SP Singh (4-34) took five quick wickets between them, leaving Micklehurst struggling on 55-6. A poor total looked likely, but Andy Whitehead had other ideas, leading the tail in a frustrating final dozen overs, resulting in a respectable total of 162-9 and depriving the hosts of a point. Shepley got off to a solid start, before losing Singh (19) and Sam Haigh (22) in quick succession. At 42-2 a good stand was essential and it was provided in spades by Tim Rees (79*) and Nigel Hoyle (46*) who put on an unbroken 126 for the last wicket, Rees striking the winning runs with a six.
