HEAVY WOOLLEN CUP FINAL
Shepley travel to Spen Victoria on Sunday 31 July (12.00 noon start) to face Bradford League Division One side Gomersal in the final of The Heavy Woollen Cup. This is Shepley's first appearance in a major final since their defeat by Mirfield in the same competition at Ossett in 1990.
Shepley have reached the final the hard way, beating Huddersfield League Premiership sides Kirkburton (4 wickets), Scholes (33 runs) and Slaithwaite (7 wickets in the semi-final), as well
as inflicting a rare defeat on Bradford League leaders Woodlands (3 wickets) in the quarter-final. Danny Glover's team go into the final in good form following victory at league leaders Delph & Dobcross to put themselves firmly in the mix for the title.
Gomersal have had a disappointing league season, currently sitting 14 points adrift at the foot of the table, but they have saved their best form for The Heavy Woollen Cup. They have beaten Central Yorkshire League second tier side Liversedge (95 runs), Bradford League Division Two side Spen Victoria (8 runs), Huddersfield League leaders Delph & Dobcross (138 runs in the quarter-final) and finally won a dramatic last-ball victory with a six against fellow Bradford League Division One side Hanging Heaton in the semi-final. Details of both sides runs to the final can be found by clicking here.
The two sides last played each other in the second round of this competition at Marsh Lane in 2010 (scorecard). On that occasion Shepley eventually ran out comfortable winners by 85 runs, but only after recovering from a shaky start.
